About us

Docx to PDF publishes free document converters that run inside your own browser. This page says who operates the site, what it is for, and how the tools are built — the things you would want to know before trusting a website with a document.

Why this site exists

The problem we set out to solve

Converting a Word document to PDF is one of the most ordinary things a person does with a computer, and one of the most awkward to do on a borrowed machine, a phone, or a locked-down office laptop. The usual answer is a website that asks you to upload the file, wait in a queue, sign up, and trust that the copy on its server is deleted afterwards.

We thought the upload step was the part worth removing. Modern browsers can read a DOCX file, lay out its pages and write a PDF without any help from a server, so that is how these tools are built.

How the tools work

When you choose a file, the conversion code has already been downloaded to your device along with the page. Your document is read into memory, rendered page by page, and written back out as a finished file. Nothing is transmitted, so there is no queue, no account and no retention period to worry about.

How we make money

The current status is listed plainly rather than implied: see the table below. If advertising is introduced, it will be named on the Privacy Policy page before the first ad is served. We do not sell data, because there is no document data to sell.

How the tools are checked

Each converter is exercised against real documents before release: plain text, headed and numbered reports, documents with tables, embedded images, footnotes and mixed page sizes. Known limits are written on the tool's own page rather than left for you to discover, and are updated when the behaviour changes.
